When you return your vehicle, your Volkswagen should be in good shape. Of course there will be some normal wear and tear. To help you assess what might be considered excess wear and tear, please review the documents on this page. If you have excess wear and tear, you may consider having it repaired prior to turn-in to avoid being charged.


End of Lease Options
Now that your lease is up, we can help you with the end-of-lease process before you get your new Volkswagen. To start, set up or log in to your complementary Volkswagen Plus account. There, you'll find members-only benefits, events, special offers and plenty of useful online tools that'll make the transition a smooth ride.


It's Time to Prepare? 

Thank you for leasing with Volkswagen Credit. We look forward to assisting you in making a smooth transition as you near the end of your lease. You have the option to purchase your current vehicle or get into your next Volkswagen. 

You can return your leased Volkswagen to Northland Volkswagen regardless of where you originally took delivery.

As a returning Volkswagen Credit lessee, we'll waive your turn-in fee and security deposit* on your next Volkswagen lease or if you decide to purchase your next Volkswagen, we'll waive your turn-in fee.** It's our way of saying, 'We're glad you've been part of our family and we look forward to serving you in the years to come!'

You can schedule an inspection appointment by calling one of our Business Managers here at Northland Volkswagen.   

Appointments are available Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and can be scheduled at your home or work as long as someone 18 years or older is present.

During the inspection, an SGS agent will evaluate your vehicle for any excess wear and use. Upon completion, you will receive an inspection condition report which itemizes any excess wear.  Any excess wear will be billed on your Turn-In Settlement Invoice (unless you choose to repair the items prior to turn-in).

If you have any excess wear charges, we highly recommend that you discuss the results with us and insurance agent.  We may have helpful suggestions for minimizing out of pocket expenses.Make sure to ask us if any of the repairs needed are covered under warranty. If repairs are completed,mail or fax the receipts to us before you return your vehicle to ensure proper credit to your account.


Clean your vehicle inside and out.  Make sure all items are present:
  • All keys
  • Owner and Service manuals
  • Headrests
  • Navigation discs (if applicable)
  • Cargo Covers (if applicable)

Some vehicle wear and use is expected.  We've included common damage items and what we consider "normal" versus "excess" wear and use.




Returning your Vehicle

The day has arrived!  Please bring all the following items with you to return your vehicle: your inspection report, all keys (including any valet/spares), vehicle owner's manual, spare tire and tools, navigation disc (if applicable), wheel lock bolts & key, any other accessories listed on your lease agreement. Don't forget to bring any invoices for any repairs you had completed to waive any damage charges on the inspection report. One final inspection will be completed by Northland Volkswagen and the final kilometers will be noted on the inspection report. You will receive a copy of the final report.
We'll remove your license plates off your vehicle for you.

The vehicle return process takes approximately 15-20 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I return my vehicle to a non-VW dealer?

  • No. Your vehicle must be returned to an authorized Volkswagen dealer. Contact your Volkswagen dealer to schedule a turn-in appointment.

Can I turn in my vehicle early without fees or penalties?

  • You may turn in your vehicle up to 90 days before your maturity date without any early termination fees or penalties. However, you are still responsible for the remaining payments, taxes, excess mileage, damages and a turn-in fee***.

What charges can I expect on my final turn-in settlement invoice?
   The following items may be included on your final invoice:

  • Excess wear and use
  • Any remaining payments
  • Any charges specified in your lease agreement that haven't been paid
  • Excess mileage charges
  • Turn-in fee***

*Unless required as condition for leasing certain models
**Next lease or purchase must occur within 30 days of returning your Volkswagen model and requires the simultaneous lease or purchase of a new or Certified Pre-Owned Volkswagen model through Volkswagen Credit.
***Your turn-in fee is waived if your next lease or purchase occurs within 30 days of returning your Volkswagen model and you simultaneously lease or purchase a new or Certified Pre-Owned Volkswagen through Volkswagen Credit.
